Dog Lane is first recorded in 1472 and it seems likely that there was already an alehouse in the lane, serving the medieval citizens of this popular little town.

The Horn & Trumpet appears on the scene in 1840 when it was converted from a private residence into licensed premises. Today, it's a friendly, family run inn where landlady Linda Powell, who has been here since 1986, is assisted by her daughter Cheryl.

There is a bar/dining room and a lounge bar with an open fire which adds to the welcoming atmosphere.

The inn's menu is also in the traditional mould, offering a huge selection of light meals and snacks at extraordinarily good value for money prices. Meals are served from 12 midday to late evening.
There are 2 real ales on tap along with traditional cider and a selection of wines. Children are welcome and have their own special choices. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in this attractive old town, the Horn & Trumpet has 6 comfortable guest bedrooms - 4 triples and 2 twins. Four of the rooms have en suite facilities.
